Check out this VERY RARE ITEM.....This 1954 Crime and Punishment #71 Complete 12-Page LARGE ART Story titled "Human Reptile!" was penciled and inked by the great GENE COLAN very early in his art career. A generation before Gene Colan became a fan favorite (starting with the Creepy line of horror comics and expanding into the mainstream heroics and terrors of Marvel and DC), Colan was a dependable workhorse in the stables of Gleason and Atlas (pre-Marvel) publications. This assignment barely squeaked past the then-new censorship machine of the Comics Code Authority - one of the last such true-crime titles to be issued without an A-of-Approval emblem (Gleason's crime books faded away after a few Code issues). The story, here, concerns a murderous gangster whose overweight condition is his undoing (not to give away too much, y'know). Colan's rock-solid compositions show stylistic traits (body-language, camera angles, and kinetic imagery) that would come to a fuller maturity during the 1960s-80s. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 12" x 18" on much larger art board. Just a great opportunity here to own a great 12 page GOLDEN AGE story by this iconic artist! See all 12 published pages in the red links above. ALL art on our website (including this one) are able to be purchased with VERY fair time payments, and trades are always considered towards "ANY" art on our website! Just send us an email to mikeburkey@aol.com and we can try to work something out.
