This design would eventually become the main illustrated cover for the legendary Frank Frazetta Lord of the Rings portfolio. A match made in... well Middle Earth, Frazetta's mastery of Tolkien's vision art can be seen in this great preliminary piece. Here, Gandalf the Grey leads the Fellowship across a treacherous tree trunk in the top space, and below a detailed skull with Gandalf to the left and on top of the skull. A great FULL FRAZETTA SIGNATURE also under the 'Lord of the Rings' title! Art was created in Graphite on 7.25" x 10" onion skin paper.
