Detective Comics #485 p 11 (VINTAGE DON NEWTON ART AS BATMAN BATTLES THROUGHOUT, WITH SENSEI ALSO!) 1979

The team of Don Newton (pencils) and Dan Adkins (inks) collaborated on this great Batman battle page. It features Batman in battle with two fierce doberman's in the first four panels followed by a great full body image of the Dark Knight. Newton had a great feel for Batman and his world bringing a level of quality to the Dark Knight's adventures not seen since Neal Adams worked on the character in the early 70s. In the final panel we find a malevolent image of Sensi, the aged martial arts master from Hong Kong who for years fought for control of the League of Assassins with its leader, Ras Al Ghul. Sensi first appeared in the Deadman story in Strange Adventures #215 and #216 (1969). This was the finale of Deadman's initial run and it was revealed that a spirit named Jonah inhabited Sensi's body and committed the murder that turned Boston Brand into Deadman. Years later it was revealed that Sensi was actually the father of Ras Al Ghul, making him the grandfather of Talia Al Ghul and the Great Grandfather of Batman's only son, Damian Wayne: Robin!
